Finished Project: Pulse Protectors

Back in September I told you about a lovely yarn I had bought. And my plan to make my first knitting project with cables: pulse protectors from the Vampire Knits book (I posted about it here). Now they’re finished and it’s been quite a journey.

I’m not very good at knitting yet. Still, I know how to knit and to purl. And I’m not the one to stick with scarfs in stockinette or garter stitch forever. So I was looking for something more challenging. So I chose a pattern that isn’t knit in the round (Handling four to five needles at once? Not yet!!!) but has got a nice cable pattern. I felt like an idiot at first, trying to handle the cable needle. More then once the needle simply dropped and my stitches were ready to begin a new life in freedom :O

I think I frogged the beginning of the first mitten three to four times until I worked it out. But then it went rather smoothly. And I’m really happy with the outcome. True, I have to work on my seaming skills. But all in all I’m very proud I handled a cable pattern at this stage of my life as a knitter (oh, that sounds so nice :heart_pale: )

While the yarn was wonderful to work with (and there’s almost a whole skein left to be turned into something beautiful) it IS wool after all. So after wearing them for some days, the wool starts to felt and I have to remove those little lints. Maybe I’ll treat myself to one of those lint shavers.

Alles Liebe,

Getting all excited over…yarn

Today is the start of Sari’s Project Going Out for September, a good opportunity to take a walk and make a short visit to our local yarn store. I wanted to check out the available assortment and was suprised what a sweet little shop I’ve got here right in the small town where I live. While in most of the big department stores in Munich (and even yarn shops in the city) all you can buy are yarns by Schachenmayr and – if you’re lucky – Lana Grossa, my local store sells yarns by all kind of „exotic“ brands (in the sense that from my experience you have to go hunting for them).

So I treated myself to one skein of Zitron Nimbus (color 20): 100% organic new wool (Merino). The real color is so much more beautiful than any picture could show and it’s so soft to the hands while you’re knitting.

I bought it to realize a pair of pulse warmers from the Vampire Knits book I got recently. This will be my first project marked as intermediate. I’m tired of making scarfs, scarfs and even more scarfs :D So, pluse warmers it is, with some increasing and cables. I’m super excited and even made a gauge (I’m always to lazy for that, but it showed I need to use smaller needles than the ones in the pattern).

Are you in the mood to follow me on my adventures into knitting land?

Alles Liebe,

New crafting books

Sometimes I’m lucky and get some new crafting books at work :3 This time I was very lucky.

The new additions are:

Knitting Vintage
Love…Knitting

Vampire Knits:
Projects to Keep You Knitting from Twilight to Dawn
Wee Wonderfuls: 24 Dolls to Sew and Love

Especially Wee Wonderfuls and Vampire Knits are a treat for the eyes. I like the latter although most of the patterns are inspired by the Twilight series :!: Nevertheless vampires and shapeshifters are kind of cool and it’s funny to read a girl should wear selfmade pulse warmers whenever she plans to meet her new vampire boyfriend xD

Alles Liebe,
